Rabbit Hole

Rabbit Hole

Down the rabbit hole I went
Down, down, and down
Past cards, gears, and watches
Through a dark void of nothingness

I landed on a cold, tile floor
Black and white checkerboard
Before me lay an eternal hallway
Spiraling onward into darkness

I wandered down the path
Aimless and confused
Until before me stood a door
With a face for a knocker

I lifted the hammer and it fell
Onto the heavy oak door
The thunk echoed
In all directions

The door opened
I walked through
And before me
Stood me

Head in hands
Tears dripping to the ground
I looked up at me
With empty black eyes

I collapsed to the ground
Melted into the dirt
Before my eyes
I stared down the path

It seemed to stare back
Blood red eyes
Thousands
Gazed into my soul
My vision blurred
I ran
Down the path
As fast as I could

A rabbit appeared
Fled further down
All the while
Turning to watch me

I followed the rabbit
Until I came upon a clearing
It sat in the center
Staring at me

It held a pocket watch
Ticking as the hands spun
Endlessly on the face
The rabbit stared blankly

I reached for the watch
Before I could grasp it
It began to float
Up, up, ever higher

It hung in the air
For but a minute
Then a blinding light
And I was falling once again

Down the rabbit hole I went
Down, down, and down
Past cards, gears, and watches
Through a dark void of nothingness

I landed
On a cold
Tile
Floor
